We're Getting There

Today was the big day when the removal men brought everything from storage in Southport where it has been languishing for six months. They arrived bang on time at 8.30 as promised. They told us that they had had a great night at The Crown in the town centre and a lovely breakfast served by a couple of very nice waitresses. John McDowell is an excellent removal company. They have done everything perfectly since we first met them in May and they have delivered our furniture in two lots, the first to our son in Rochester and now to ourselves in Framlingham without damaging a thing. They've been punctual every time and Dave and Mark (above) who did this job and the others who helped last time could not have been more helpful.

Thanks to the failure of the garden office part of the project, this is how the garage now looks. We've nowhere to put all our books and office furniture until we get the new studio built.

We had a setback with the kitchen. Gill the boss of Orwells called round today and told us that the Corian worktop has been held up by their supplier and the kitchen won't be completed on Monday as planned. We felt really sorry for her as she was so concerned about letting us down. We checked with Dave and Lyn the owners of Barn Cottage where we are staying and there is no problem in us staying a few more days. After all, after six months in a caravan a couple of days in a lovely little house is not really a hardship. Orwells needn't worry about the problem, their service has been absolutely fantastic and the kitchen is starting to look magnificent. It will have taken two months (including Christmas) to complete it but when you look at the quality and attention to detail it is hardly surprising. Gill spent over two hours today deciding on the drawer and cupboard handle positions with us  - none of our previous fitters have even asked.

We managed to unpack a fair number of boxes and by 7 p.m we had the sofas in place and tomorrow I'm hoping to set up the TV.

We managed to make our bed up. Although the colours of our old bedding and lights are all wrong it will do until we get the chance to go and buy some new. Next arrived bang on time and delivered two bedside cabinets that I forgot to photograph. We've bought a couple of bits and pieces from Next during the project and their service is really outstanding. Communications on the delivery were so thorough and culminated with a call from the driver to tell us he was fifteen minutes away. No wonder Next are doing so well. (And the bedside cabinets are good too).

Our spare bedroom has all our paintings in it. Not sure where we are going to hang them all when we get around to opening them.

So that's it for tonight. After a quick curry at the local Indian last night, we've got a Co-Op ready meal tonight (with a well earned bottle of wine). We've got to be up early tomorrow. Our new telly for the kitchen plus some shelves and a chair for the dressing room are scheduled to arrive from John Lewis between 7 and 2.
